Question re Poole, Wiltshire

In the 1851 census, I have an entry with the place of birth listed as Poole, Wiltshire.  Is this the same as Poole-Keynes?

Hi Bruce

Have you seen the actual image for the entry, or did you get it from a transcription? If you haven't seen the image, I could double-check the entry for you as there's Poulton and Poulshot in Wiltshire but Poole-Keynes is in Gloucestershire and there are Poole's in Dorset, Devon, Somerset.......

I would say it rather depends on where the census actually was, since they could get the entry spectacularly wrong if it's in another county. On the other had, if it's local it could be the name of a house or farm nearby.

If you could give us the reference, we could do some extra checking for you....

Hi,

My ggran said she was from Poole, Wilts on some census.

I discovered it was Poole Keynes, now in Glos. From memory ?? I think the boundary changed in 1897, but I could be wrong.
