The Barracks (Turrell’s Buildings) provided extremely basic accommodation for the poorest parts of Maidenhead society and some described them as slums. At one point my own my own ancestors lived there. When I first got in to family history and discovered this older members of the family weren’t very keen to discuss it. It seems that at one time the term Barracks was used widely throughout England to describe such accommodation whereas nowadays it seems restricted to military structures.

Bingo - well done Debra, I knew there had to be Churches in there somewhere. Presumably her maiden name got added on to all the children's for some reason
