Otto Paul Noetzel
« on: Saturday 08 October 22 01:44 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I'm looking for information regarding Otto Paul Noetzel b. 3 Dec 1889, Birnbaum  d. 5 Feb 1967, Harburg-Hamburg. I have Otto's father being Franz Noetzel b. 22 Feb 1853, Alt Haferweise, Steinspring however, I don't have any other details.

Up until the early 20th century I think the family were living in Prussia so I'm unsure if there is a separate page for these records.

Any help gratefully received.
Thank you.

The Gertrud Ella Hoffmann (daughter of the painter Paul Hoffmann), whose birth Dave found, died in Warmbrunn (Lower Silesia) on 19 December 1892, aged 8 months. The death certificate is available on ancestry.

Birnbaum, where Otto Paul was born, is now called Międzychód, and is about 80km NW of Poznan and 200km north of Warmbrunn.

What is your source for the information on the Noetzel family? Is it your family tree on ancestry?

Yes, I do have a Noetzel tree on Ancestry. The information used to create the tree came from a notebook my late father in law had, but it only covered the paternal line for the most part. Unfortunately, the notebook has been lost so we're fumbling around in the dark in terms of trying to verify who belongs where.

I found Otto Paul's death registration along with Ella's on a German website - possibly Hamburg.de but can't be sure. As far as I can tell from what is available on Ancestry, the Noetzel family and possibly the Hoffman family were originally in Prussia which is now Poland. At some point which I can't verify, they came to Germany, possibly near Luneburg. Otto was a school principal, my father law was born near Dahlenburg - I think - and before the outbreak of WW2, they moved to the Harburg area of Hamburg, in Heimfeld. The family home Otto built is still there.

Many thanks for your response.

You beat me to it, TreeSpirit.

What a shame that the notebook has gone missing, but all is not lost.

There were several other siblings whose births were registered in Birnbaum:

Emil Otto Noetzel, b. 21 Oct 1881 Driewcen Kr. Birnbaum, Posen (no. 313), d. 1882 (no. 79)
Hermann Emil Noetzel, b. 9 Sep 1883 Driewcen (no. 286, p288)
Frida Helena Amalie Noetzel, b. 21 Sep 1884 Driewcen (no. 284, p286)
Frida Klara Noetzel, b. 1885 Driewcen (no. 382)
Gustav Adolf Noetzel, b. 18 Jan 1887 Driewcen (no. 27)

I'll provide the links to the Polish website another time.

Franz and Bertha lived in Driewcen (aka Driwcen) = Drzewce in Polish. This was a tiny farming settlement about 8km NNW of Birnbaum. The population never rose above 300.

Franz was a Wirth und Eigenthümer, a farmer who owned his farm.

Here is the birth and baptism record for Heinrich August Noetzel in 'Arhorst'. His father, Martin, was also a Wirth und Eigenthümer

Did the notebook specifically say that Otto's wife's maiden name was Hoffmann?

Justin

Thanks to everyone all who have jumped into this for me. Yes, the notebook definitely had Ella Hoffman as Otto Paul Noetzel's wife but when I found the registration for her death her full name as Gertrude Ella, I guess she ditched the Gertrude and chose Ella!

Through Ancestry I managed to find a few of Franz's siblings but I had the wrong mother which has now been cleared up. I do recall Martin from the notebook, I think he was the last entry. Unfortunately I'm in Australia and all of the Noetzel family history records (my late father in law was the family historian) are still in Germany. I set out creating the tree with my daughter and despite asking if she could have details, nothing has been forthcoming.

Many thanks once again, I can at least commit this information to the tree later in the week.
