James Corcoran, Leinster Regiment
« on: Saturday 08 October 22 21:05 BST (UK) »
I need help with finding out about one of my husband's maternal great-grandfathers, James Corcoran

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=866419 is where I have been discussing him.

What I know is that he was born around 1853. By the time he married in 1880 he was in the 109th (couldn't read the next bit). In 1891 the UK census has him in Aldershot with his wife and four children. Three of them were born in Ireland and on one of the birth certificates it states he was in the 2nd battalion Leinster regiment. His fourth child was born in Kent. One of his children married in 1910 and on the marriage certificate it states that he is deceased. So is anyone able to tell me what he did after 1891 (some people have suggested he was in South Africa from 1902 and 1904)  and when and how he died.

His service records are on FindMyPast:  https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBM%2FWO97%2F2564%2F039%2F001&parentid=GBM%2FWO97%2F2564%2F57574

The records ShaunJ quoted show that James Corcoran was discharged from the service on 01 Sept 1891. At that time, he was in the 2nd battalion Leinster regiment.
He was not in good health being in and out of the hospital many times for bronchitis, and pleurisy.
He had served in the West Indies, but his last 11 years were served at "home", which means England, Ireland, or Scotland.

The record lists the marriage to Bridgit and births of the children you listed in your other post.

The problem is that a birth at 1848 doesn't agree with the marriage certificate with Bridget
