McKinnon
« on: Monday 10 October 22 22:49 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am trying to determine the parents and grandparents of Lauchlan/Lachlan McKinnon (my 3rd gr grandfather) who from my searching over the years I believe was born around 1820 in Morven, Argyleshire.  He married Elizabeth Howe in 1849 in Dunbartonshire and their children were born in and around Glasgow.  I believe I have the right death cert for Lachlan - 21 Dec 1865 in Glasgow where it says his father's name was Hugh and 'Mary' for his mother.  I have a Mary Morison in my tree as the mother, but not certain she is the right Mary. Thank you for any help.

How have you determined the 1865 death is your Lachlan?  Which of his children are you descended from?

There are 2 1861 entries for that name - both b Argyll & both living in Glasgow

Lauchlan McKinnon b 1821 Kilmore wife Mary - Glasgow Barony

Lauchlan McKinnon b 1820 Morven wife Elizabeth - Glasgow Calton - death 1865 no age shown.

Death of a Lachlan McKinnon aged 48 in 1867 Blythswood mmn McKenzie

... His parents were Hugh McKinnon and Mary - both deceased.  I am having trouble reading what is under Hugh's name - looks initially like Blarekfield Labourer....

Could possibly be Printfield Labourer?

Have you seen this 1851 census entry? www.freecen.org.uk/search_records/5a14fecdf4040b9d6e086e44/grace-mcphail-1851-lanarkshire-glasgow-1825-?locale=en

Writing must be hard to read! FreeCen is normally good for transcriptions and there looks to likely be mistranscriptions on birth places.

With Lachlan and Elizabeth marrying in Dunbartonshire, there is this marriage/banns:

Alexander McPhail and Grace McKenn
14 Nov 1848
Cardross, Dunbarton

There is a likely death for this Grace in Glasgow in later years:

Grace MCPHAIL or MCKINNON
Age 64
Mother's maiden name MORRISON
1889
644/7 250
Blythswood/Glasgow

A sister to Lachlan perhaps?

Or maybe Bleachfield Labourer?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
