Who knows!  I don't have much knowledge of religious habits, but I would have thought that people with an RC background would be perhaps more inclined to "stick to the rules", especially as they seem to have had their children baptised.

One of the problems is the spellings of the surnames, which doesn't help searching.  If our ancestors are illiterate, then the entries are open to interpretation of accents, etc.

I did have a quick look at Scotland's People website to see if there was a lead there, but couldn't readily see one.  Have you thought of Ireland as a marriage venue? 

Also, just wondering, have you obtained any of the birth certificates to see what they ACTUALLY say!
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
