Osborn(e) and Wilby families of Aldeburgh
« on: Thursday 13 October 22 20:53 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone can help me establish a connection between an Alexander Osborn(e), who was married in Aldeburgh in 1798, and died in 1804; and a William Wilby who was around from before 1860 till his death in 1876?

Both were connected with a windmill in Aldeburgh, but was it the same mill.  A familial connection would strengthen the case.

Then it is only a matter of which of the three corn mills it could be.  ;D

Thanks,
Windy

There are a few mentions of William WILBY, miller in newspapers.

There is an item in 1860 about a case involving William WILBY of Aldeburgh overpayment of tithes. He says he was living in Otley in 1845 as a journeyman miller and took over the mill in Otley in 1850.

Another is an advertisement for  a mill for sale in 1858 in Stradbroke - in occupation of William WILBY. It is "on the road leading to Halesworth".

I can't readily find a marriage for William WILBY and Hannah GARNHAM (she may have been widowed?), however there is this marriage at Stradbroke  - William WILBY and Elizabeth ALDOUS on 23 May 1831 which looks interesting given the housekeepers name in 1861.

Modified to add:
Louisa WILBY baptised at Stradbroke 6 Mar 1836, parents William and Elizabeth.

This looks like the family in 1841 at Framlingham

William WILBY   30  (miller)
Elizabeth            9
Mary Ann           7
Louisa                4
Emma LORD     25  (servant)
HO107/1028/9/14 pg20

Not seeing any connection yet to the OSBORN(E) family.

Thanks.  Not what I was hoping for, but there you go ...

Looks like he was a wodower too, as there is no mention of a Mrs. Wilby.
