Please help find parents of JAMES MILLER 1787 Barstobrick farm Tongland

I have tried the commercial ones myself but I can't find the parents or proper date. A family tree has 15 April 1787 but no confirmed parents. Please help.

There's no record on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk of the baptism of a James Mill*r in Kirkcudbrightshire in 1787.

Therefore there is not going to be a record on any of the commercial web sites, all of which merely index the original data from Scotland's People. See https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=714261.0

So the date comes from a source other than Scotland's People, for example a family bible or a gravestone. Your best plan is to contact the tree owner (if possible) and ask where the information came from.

Much later of course but the are the Valuation Rolls for 1855, the first year these records began on Scotland's People.

But I am always very wary of birth/baptism dates without at least one parent name.

So what does one do in this situation... without parent names - so many James Mitchell's baptisms in even in that year.

Can you please clarify whether it is Millar or Mitchell you are seeking?

Why do you think James was baptised in that year?

Have you looked for other baptisms in the same location in case James had sibling/s and their baptisms give information about parents.

If it is James Mitchell (and not James Miller) all on SP.
James Mitchell married Catherine McMecken at Tongland 6/7/1810.
Have found six children Mary b1811, Hugh b1813, James b1815, Isabella b1821, Andrew b1823 and Jean Carson b1825.
Headstones for James and Catherine at Tongland Kirkyard and also son Hugh.
