Local Soccer - Lord Ninian Stuart Cup final
« on: Wednesday 19 October 22 14:42 BST (UK) »
A report in the Western Mail in April 1934, on the semi-final of the Lord Ninian Stuart Cup between Cardiff City “A” team v Grange Stars (favourites to win the cup) resulted in a 1-0 to Cardiff City A.  I presume Cardiff was in the final? However, I have not found a report on the final.  Can someone help with teams and results, please.

I know nothing about sport  ;D ;D however looking on findmypast newspapers I see that there is an article in the Western Mail on 07 May 1934 which seems to say the Cup was won by St David's (I don't have access to the whole article). It also appears to be rugby rather than soccer.

Hi, there was a Lord Ninian Cup competition for rugby and football (soccer) teams and it is the soccer final I'm interested in.
Regards Roy

Ah, I see. I said I know nothing about sport!

Perhaps this article:
12 April 1934 - Western Mail

The preview on the findmypast index is a bit hard to work out:
"ARemarkable Cupfinal G. C. °abatis Wodnesday 2 Roath Rangers 1 (Boscott, Guy) (R. Jones) Gabalfa Wednesday won the Lord Ninian Stuart Cup—the chief trophy put up for competition by the Cardiff and District Wednesday League—at Nlnian Park, Cardiff, on Wednesday "

Thank you,
I attach a snippet of 3 April. With Cardiff 'A' winning the semi-final you would expect them to appear in the final.

Ninian Stuart was an ancestor of the current Marquess of Bute. Ninian Park was also named after this person. Bute in Cardiff was named after the Marquess of Bute at the time of construction.
The Isle Bute is in Scotland.
