Catherine / Katherine Molyneux
« on: Thursday 20 October 22 22:05 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for the father of Catherine Molyneux who married John hockenhull. She was born maybe around 1703.
I have her on the Hockenhull of Prenton tree in the Visitations of cheshire, but she is just written down as "dau. of ......... Molyneux, of Hawkley, marr. Dec 21 1723"

I've been all through the molyneux pages of the visitations and have spent hours looking her up online!
I'd like to find out where she fits into the Molyneux of Hawkley, if anyone can help I'd be so grateful!

A reply on one of those threads said that it was a Catholic family.  Possible sources:
Returns of Papists and Recusants from 17th-18th centuries
Return of Papists' Estates 1723-5 following the Jacobite Rising 1715
Enrolled wills of Catholics
Conveyances. There were restrictions and extra taxes on property belonging to Catholics.

Another thread about Molyneux of Hawksley
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=629605
Mentions Hugh Molyneux in a lease dated 1686.

Line of descent of Molyneux of Hawksley is mentioned in article on Pemberton Township in "Victoria County Histories". It wasn't straightforward.

Well that's really weird.
That link to the first post you put Maiden Stone is not the one I initially read. The one I read was a much longer thread than this one.
The one that I originally read is here
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=732831.0
but how did I get to that one?
It is 3 pages long, some 25 replies, and several people did a lot of digging, and as I said, not a thank you appears within it.
There is no way I did a search for other threads by this same person, so I can't see how I would have got to that thread to make that comment. All very weird   ???

It seems that Hugh Molyneux died without issue. Succeeded by brother, William, died 1698. Issue? Wiliam's successor was his uncle, Reginald. A Reginald Molyneux, Esquire married 1699.

The 1723 marriage was by Licence and the Licence  states that both Catherine and John were of the Parish of Roby in Lancashire.

Roby is 10 miles away from Aughton Green where a Katherine Mollineux was baptised 7 November 1703, father Thomas
