THOMAS RIGBY from Shelton
« on: Saturday 22 October 22 15:13 BST (UK) »
I can find the marriage record for Thomas Rigby on 11th Nov 1837 at St. John's Hanley, to Elizabeth Fox.
Thomas is shown as full age, his residence place Lichfield St, Shelton and his father as John Rigby.

I can't find Thomas and Elizabeth in the 1841 census nor can I find a record of baptism of Thomas

From the 1851 and 1861 census Thomas states his birthplace as Newcastle under Lyme, and from his age he was born c1817.

The only baptism in time scale and region is on 1st Jan 1817 at St. Giles Newcastle u Lyme but that is to William Rigby not John

Thomas died aged 52 in 1868 N u L

I have an Ancestry subscription and  I have looked on Freereg and Family search without success, are there any other sites where I might find his birth/baptism record?
How can I find them in 1841 ?

Thank you

The baptismal record shows "Brazier" while marr. cert states "Tinman".

There's an 1810 newspaper advert which states "A good opening for a Working Tinman or Brazier". So, might be said the occupations are consistent?.

So very frustrating.

There's a marriage of a William Rigby of NuL, occpn brewer, at Stoke on Trent (St Peter ad Vincula) to Elizabeth Powel, of Stoke on Trent on 28 Jul 1814. Had been casting around for a possible William John/John William Rigby marriage.
They may have had a daughter Anna Maria, 16 Jun 1815, NuL, - this time occpn. is labourer.

Alerted to your latest post. So marriage/baptism from FindMyPast and newspaper details from BNA.

Unfortunately I can't find Thomas Rigby and his family in 1841. His eldest daughter, Ann Rigby, born 1838 is living with Elizabeth's sister, Ann (nee Fox) and her husband Henry Beardmore in 1851.
  HO107/2001/143 p12

She is still with Henry Beardmore in 1861.

I notice that the family, from 1851 census to the 1881 census lived at 34 Garden Street, Newcastle under Lyme.  I had a look at Garden Street on the 1841 census.  They weren't there but there didn't seem many houses and it was at the end of the census schedule. I did wonder if some of the houses had been missed. Just a thought
