Many thanks to all for replying so soon  to my  first post here. Col C and and Johnhood you appear to have the correct William and Thomas Slater based on the details I already have. It's great to find out more about some of the ancestors for whom I have photos . I'm still unsure  who was the Father of Nellie and Frank Slater ( children of Mary Ann) as they appear to have been born after William Slater died in 1863 . Presumably not the children of David Inman or they would have carried his name ?

I don't know what sources you are using but William Slater and wife Mary Ann had:

Bessie Holbrow Slater birth Dec.1858
Walter Gattey Slater birth Sept.1859 (death Sept.1859)
Ellen Gattey Slater birth Sept.1860 (shown as Nellie in 1871 and 1881).
Victor Hammond Slater birth Dec.1861

William Slater still alive 1861 census and son Victor born later that year.

However, they did not have a son Frank nor is anyone of this name with family in 1871 or 1881.

Where do you think William Slater died?   His family seem to have remained in Bradford but there is no death entry between 1861 and Mar.1865 (when wife remarried) for a William Slater bc1830 in Bradford.

Hi Annette.
Thanks for your response.
I have a copy of William Slater's birth certificate showing he died on 6th May 1863 at London Hospital in Whitechapel.   Mary Ann appears to have  moved to Bradford with Victor Bessie and Ellen  after her husband's death but I don't know which year. I have a Slater family photograph of Mary Anne with 9 siblings taken in 1892 . The smallest one named Frank Slater looks no older than 17 or 18 . I'm wondering therefore if his birth was  illegitimate.

I note the death of William below but as mentioned no death for him in the London area, assuming he was born 1800 give or take a few years. Can you clarify where he died and his age?

If he as previously posted appears in the 1881 census, how can this be his death? The Barnet death in 1888 covers Finchley where he was living in 1881.

Hi John, I'm not saying it is but as I could not find him in 1881 it is the only other one I can find which is close to his age.

I would not have found any census returns had it not been for your 1851 post.
