If this is the same Patrick Breen, he was in the Army before WW1 broke out -- his Medal Index Card shows that he was in France from the 20 December 1915 and he was awarded the 1914-15 Star Medal, the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

The Dublin Evening Telegraph, 17 July 1907 carries the report of an inquest "BOY DROWNED IN THE LIFFEY"

"... body of a nine year old boy, named Michael Green. Mr James Green, 41 Lower Mayor street deposed deceased was his son...".

There's a 3 year old Michael Breen on the 1901 Census with James Breen, father and 12 year old Patrick Breen at Mayor Street.

Note - a separate newspaper report of the drowning has the surname as Breen

Yes that is the same family, I searched for reports in the media regs Coroners inquest but to no avail, the Inquest took place on the 17th July several days after the drowning, the boy drowned near the sheds on the North Wall dock, possibly there were no witness's?

It's a very sad tale with the young lad missing 10 days before the body was found.

a bit of a long shot, but if you are searching for modern members of the Breen family you should check out Pat Breen, father and son, who are very prominent business people in Ardrossan.   Roofing Contractors and Chairman of the local football team, Winton Rovers, and also the Three Towns Scooter Club.  Pat Senr. is mid 80s.
Ardrossan is/was a main ferry port for Ireland and many of the locals are descended from the movers / immigrants from Eire and N.I..
First stop to check is the Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald newspaper archives.
cheers, Ian
