Help with Brickwall in Caernarvonshire/Penisarwaun
« on: Saturday 29 October 22 17:40 BST (UK) »
Hello

Looking for help in breaking through a Caernarvonshire heritage brick wall....

My great * 2 grandfather, Robert Williams, was born in 1853 in the county and the 1921 census have him indicate Penisa'r Waun as his place of birth. Thus far it was just the county listed - so a real breakthrough.
But what next!? Looking for tips on next steps for those of you used to looking at the records of the area.

So far I've converted his 1921 listed age into the potential BMD records in 2 quarters of 1853. Tried to look at baptism records on Ancestry and FindMyPast to rule in/out. But to no avail.
Is the only solution to buy the birth certs of each of the 6 prime suspects, recorded as a Caernarfon registration, from the GRO?

All help, direction and comments welcome!

Neil

Can you tell me where he was living in 1921. I'd like to check the birthplace on the form.

Do you have his marriage cert to narrow his fathers name, and try place on census.

Any other info to help identify?

The reg district around area is Caernavon, but don't think it helps much.

"PENISARWAIN, a hamlet in the parish of Llanddeiniolen, county Carnarvon, 4 miles S. of Bangor."

At the moment, I don't see either a Church of England/Wales or a non-Conformist baptism that would fit.

Civil registration would probably be difficult as Williams is the most common surname in the county (i did some transcribing of the records there!)  :-\

The "closest" I can see is Robert Williams, bap10 July 1853, place Cwmyglo (just south Penisa'r Waun), parents Jacob, quarryman, and Mary.

Can see the couple in '51 but not 61.

But chasing Williams is such a headache.

Neil - if he married, his marriage cert would probably give his father's name.
