Family relationship - how to calculate
« on: Sunday 30 October 22 14:10 GMT (UK) »
I have recently discovered a link (via DNA and mutual research) to someone I didn't know about. I share my great-grandparents with her. My grandfather's sister was her great-grandmother. Does this make us second cousins once removed? Once removed, as she is a generation down from me?

I have looked online at relationship calculators, but just wanted to check that I hadn't misinterpreted.

i calculate that your parent  would be her grandparents cousin

you are her parents 2nd cousin

= your match is 1 generation removed down from you

so yes 2c1R

Thank you, brigidmac!

I'm easily confused, so thank you for confirming that - it's much appreciated!
