Next door: Luke and Esther Briggs, Ann’s bro with his wife
I wonder whether these two conclusions are correct or not:
Robert Hopkinson and Ann nee Briggs are John’s parents. John Hopkinson was born Q3 1840, District Chesterfield. I couldn’t find his bapt.
I've found:
John Hopkinson, 30yrs, Widower, Laborer, (father: John Hopkinson, gardener)
married on 17 Mar 1872 in Brampton, St Thomas, Derbs,
Mary Emma Band, 20yrs, spinster, (father: David Band, coal miner)
Problems:
Wrong name spelling (Band instead of Bann), Mary Emma Bann’s father was David Bann, coal miner, though.
Wrong father for John, should have been Robert ...
However I couldn’t find any other marriage close to this one.
Coincidence or not? Ann Elizabeth’s (b 1857) marriage document (she mard 27 Oct 1878 Saint Thomas, Old Brampton, Derbs James Potter) said originally: Her father is John Hopkinson. There has been made the following correction in 1886: In entry no 204 column 7 for John read Robert. Corrected on 28th July 1886 by me ... in the presence of James Potter …
Could the same error have been made at John’s marriage???
Hmm, John's occupations do vary widely: gardener, ag laborer, coachman, coal miner ...
Thank you in advance
