Trallwn, Llanarthney
« on: Thursday 03 November 22 14:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Hoping someone can help. Looking for who was living at Trallwn, Llanarthney 1861 to 1891. I can find who was there in 1851 and again in 1901 (see attached), but for some reason I am struggling to find it in the intervening years. Thank you

In '81 it's Thomas Morley, age 63, born Llanarthney, transcribed as Trallum.

Thanks that’s great. Thomas Morley was still there is 1891.

…. Although Thomas Morley 1817/8 Llanarthney and Rachel Morley (nee ?) 1825 Merthyr Tydfil and their daughter Mary Morley 1869 Llanarthney are a bit of a mystery. Mary’s birth does not seem to be registered, I can find no marriage for Thomas and Rachel and Thomas doesn’t seem to exist pre 1881 in census records.

I think I have worked it out, just need to get it right in my own head first!

The reason I was interested in Trallwn was that in 1901 a Mary Griffiths (nee Davies) abt 1868 Llanarthney her husband and children and mother Rachel Davies abt 1828 Llanarthney were living there. I thought Mary and Rachel were the daughter and wife of Thomas Davies a Blacksmith, abt 1818 Llanarthney who were all living at Cwmlogyow in 1871, but then seem to disappear from the 1881 and 1891 censuses. Therefore, I thought finding out who lived in Trallwn in 1881 and 1891 would help resolve this. A Thomas, Rachel and Mary Morley being there in 1881 and 1891 initially threw me, but then I twigged!

Thomas Davies 1818 Llanarthney was the illegitimate son of a Morley (probably Mary Morley 1798 and an unknown Davies). So what I think has happened is up until 1871 Thomas used the Surname Davies and then for some reason between 1881 and 1891 uses his mother’s surname for himself, his wife and daughter. Thomas dies sometime between 1891 and 1901 after which hus wide and daughter revert to the surname Davies!

So thank again to Hanes Teulu for helping me unravel this
