Hoe Park Nursing Home, Plymouth
« on: Friday 04 November 22 11:19 GMT (UK) »
Help please? Can anyone please tell me where in Plymouth the Hoe Park Nursing Home/Hospital was? I am looking at 1930's era and presuming it no longer exists. Thanks PWN

& NURSES' CO-OPERATION " has been dissolved by mutual consent as from the twenty-fifth day of
September 1939. All debts due and owing to or by the late firm will be respectively received and paid by the said Marian Dorn. The said business will be carried on in the future by the said Marian
Dorn.—As witness our hands this 10th day of November 1939.

However in the 1939 register, only the nursing and domestic staff are resident at number 9. Possibly the nursing home was somewhere else close by. Other newspaper references at that time quote the address as Citadel Road.

I know this is an oldIer map but it shows which is Hoe Terrace, facing the park and it also shows that on the corner of Citadel Rd and Lockyer St there was a Devon and Cornwall Orphan Asylum (female) such places were often repurposed at later dates as other organisations such as nursing homes and/or hospitals.

Thank you for the link to the old map. This has allowed me to pinpoint exactly where Hoe Park Terrace was. I compared the old map with google street map now and located Sussex Street which is still there. I have no personal knowledge of this area but I am assuming that a great deal was damaged in the Blitz and has been cleared and reconfigured and rebuilt. I am very grateful for your help and input. Thank you.
