John STUART and Mary HEELEY, Leeds
« on: Saturday 05 November 22 10:33 GMT (UK) »
John STUART married Mary HEELEY at Leeds St Peter after Banns on 15 May 1764.

Is anyone researching this couple? Did they stay in Leeds?

Can't seem to find any children baptised in Leeds, so they may have moved away or were an elder couple.

Thanks

Hi
Not my family but I took a look.
Their marriage is by banns both of this parish .No indication of marital status ,whether been married before etc.
John signs John Stewart and Mary makes the mark of Mary Stuart
The only witness William Walton who makes a mark

Possible burial John Stewart man of Kirkgate 2.1.1784
Mary Steward widow St Johns Hospital 12.8.1802

possible birth for John at Leeds
John Stewart  30 Sep 1726 bapt 23 Oct 1726 s of Thomas (Brigate?)
Siblings Anne 2 Dec 28th 1728 Briggate
Elizabeth 2.4./27 .5.1732 Bridge End
Thomas 4.1.1739
( in the gap 1732-39 at Hunslet Mary 74.1735 ,Rebecca and Isaac 13/15 12.1737)

Thomas married a Mary Rogers at Leeds 8.6.1728.
As for John and Mary's children ,it looks like they only included the father's name.
Mary Steward 1.10.1780
Elizabeth Stuart 12.10.1783
Thomas Steward 18.1.1789

But of course that's a bit late for their 1764 marriage
But could they be non-conformists?

Thanks Ciderdrinker.

With John being of Kirkgate when he died this lot is a possibility.

Was looking for a Sarah STUART/STEWARD born c1770. George CLAPHAM 1764-1810 of Kirkgate had a wife Sarah 1770-1814, but have not found a marriage as yet to confirm her maiden name. Two of their children had STUART/STEWARD as a second name.

John Stuart CLAPHAM 10 Feb/10 Mar 1791, buried as John Steward CLAPHAM 8 Apr 1892.
Eleanor Steward CLAPHAM 25 Sep 1807/18 May 1810. From marriage in 1846 she was Ellen Stuart.

They did have a son George Parkinson CLAPHAM 1806-1824, so Sarah could have been a PARKINSON, although George's mother was a PARKINSON so it could have come from there. There was a Sarah PARKINSON born 1770 at Kirkgate.

Thanks
