1856 Wm Westley & Sarah Hollyer, Marriage, church/venue?
« on: Sunday 06 November 22 00:41 GMT (UK) »
William Westley, School Master, born Northampton, was buried at Northampton 28th April 1857, abode "Branston" age 72 and Sarah Westley his first Wife had died 1849, aged 69, abode Wellington Street, Northampton.

Death Certificate, William Westley, died 23rd April 1857 at Braunston, in the Sub-district of Daventry, aged 72 yrs, Occupation Gentleman.

Using William Westley's abode given at burial, his Death Certificate, Free BMD Index pages and the 1861 Census (below) I managed to work out that William Westley seemingly went on to marry in 1856 Sarah Hollyer of Braunston, Daventry, the year before his death at Braunston on 23rd April 1857, Braunston in the Sub-district of Daventry.

Sarah Hollyer in the Census
1851 High Street, Braunston.
Frederick H. Hollyer, Head, U, 25, Canal Clerk, Middlesex, Stepney.
Sarah Hollyer, Mother, W, 60, Housekeeper, Middlesex, Islington.

1861 High Street, Braunston, Daventry.
Sarah Westley, Head, W, 74, Seamstress, Middlesex, Islington.

Been through Daventry BT and Braunston, Northamptonshire, Church Register online Marriages for 1856, page by page on Anc., but nothing yet.

Before I order a copy Marriage, I wondered please, if there are any other sources as to where the marriage took place?

Of course it may be a Registry Office or Nonconformist marriage not online.

Mark

Have you tried Marriage-Locator?
That uses the GRO/BMD Reference.

Thank you.

Marriage Locator says RO/NC (RD Daventry).

Searching "Marriage Locator" and "RO/NC" on Google, another Marriage with RO/NC on Marriage Locator turned out to be at the Registry Office.

RD usually Rural District.

Hi Mark.

Not sure if you already have it. Sadly no longer in the actual Churchyard. May help others also.

Hello Sandy

Thank you. I knew of the headstone and what it said from a local history Society transcription, but couldn't find a photograph, so that is brilliant  :)

Son H. T. [Henry Thomas] Westley has witnessed a family Will. He was a Tailor, then later a Hall Keeper, born Marcham (not Wareham), Berkshire in the Census, (near Abingdon).

I await William Westley's full 1856 Marriage Certificate Reg'n District Daventry, with great interest, hoping it will be his 2nd marriage and another reference to his Father and Occupation.

Northampton newspaper 17th November 1827
There was another Henry Thomas Westley, Excise Officer, dying ... at Mancester, aged 33, ... son of Mr Joseph Westley, and Nephew of Mr Thos. Westley, of this town.

Almost right, Mark!
RD means Registration District in this case.
And RO/NC means Register Office or Non-Conformist.

KG you are quite right, RD Daventry is the Registration District in this case.

Hopefully, I'll be in receipt of the Full Marriage Certificate soon.
