Thomas Barrow
« on: Monday 07 November 22 16:03 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I am hopeing someone can help me find what happened to Thomas after 1901.

Thomas was born 25/9/1884 in Lingdale a village in the Redcar/Cleveland area . His parents are Francis Henderson Barrow 1857-1895 and Emma 1852-1906.

Thomas is on the 1891 and 1901 census at the Victoria Hotel in Lingdale run by his parents but after that I have not  been able to trace him.
On the 1911 census for the Hotel his 2 sisters Edith B barrow and Alice are listed running the hotel after their mothers death in 1906
He had 2 half sisters from his mothers first marriage Harriet and Sarah Sleigh .

His mothers will of 1906 gives no Clues as to whether he may have died or gone aboard. . As it doesn't mention any of her children by name. Did he serve in the Boer war ? and remain abroad?
Grateful for any information.
Thank You .

Have you looked at passenger lists to see if he did emigrate?

He would be of an age to be married by 1911 so can look for possible marriages.

The obituary mentions that his sister Mrs Maude Russell survives him in England. There is a marriage at Guisborough in Q4 1911 for Alice Maude Barrow with Eustace Russell as a candidate spouse.

That led to this:

Leeds Mercury - Monday 16 October 1911

Quote
RUSSELL—BARROW.—On October 12th. 1911, at Christ’s Church, Goatham [sic] by the Rev. Bentley Smith, Dr EUSTACE RUSSELL, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell. The Newlands, Middlesbrough, to ALICE MAUD, younger daughter the late Mr. and Mrs. FRANK BARROW, of Lingdale.

It looks as if Alice Maude and husband Eustace Russell may have gone to Australia.  Their son William Coxon  Russell died aged 23 in WW2.

Thank you so much. Yes you have found him. His sister did indeed go to Australia and had 6 children. I have that line and also know about the family of his other sister.
Really appreciate your help. I was going round in circles .

By way of update. John Owen Barrow was born 1April1916 in Hastings Ontario. Appears to marry in England Cynthia Dobson in Oct 1940. I wonder was he with Canadian troops. Both die in Canada.
His brother Charles Patrick was in England in 1946..He had 3 children who remained in Canada. Lots more to do on this line but without your help I would never have solved the issue. Thank you.
