Mathern Marriages

Hi,

Catherine Griffiths married Thomas Williams on 9th of April 1826.

Francis Griffiths married Martha Baker on 24th December 1834.

In both cases Ancestry and Findmypast give the place of marriage as Llanvetherine.

Looking at the marriages record (not the banns record), at the top of each page, the parish is given as Matherne. (The files are too large to load.) I get an error message.

As far as I know, Llanvetherine is near Abergavenny and Matherne is near Chepstow, so someone at Ancestry and Findmypast has got their wires crossed.

Can anyone enlighten me, please?

the source, that both Findmypast & Ancestry have taken the records from, has misindexed the records. There's little point in reporting this as an error on FindMyPast as they won't change it. There are errors across the parish records from Wales on both sites.

Checking the actual parish as you did is the thing to do. Both marriages appear in the transcriptions on FreeReg for the parish of Matherne.
