Robert and John Wall of Colwall - dairymen
« on: Thursday 10 November 22 18:36 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find out more about Robert and John Wall, brothers, who were dairymen in Colwall in the mid 1800s. I'm keen to find out if this was a family dairy business of if they were just employees. But anything related to this family would be of interest if anyone is familiar with the history.

I already have BMD for these people. It's the personal history that I'm trying to find out about.

Thanks

Do they appear on census records?  That should give an indication if they were employees or who the actual farmers were as head of households.

When were they born?

Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

They're on the census records as 'dairymen' and I've found them independently listed in trade directories of the time as diary owners too. It's not conclusive buy my sense is they were self employed. I don't know if they ran independent businesses, or if they worked together.

Hello, we have just bought a house in Witcombe Gloucestershire and have found an old bible there which has on the inside page "John Wall, Colwall 1877"
I can't find out anything else about it but your post came up so perhaps it is a family bible?  Its spine is broken and its quite thick with large print.  It says it is appointed to be read in churches.
Don't know what to do with it ?
