David Dickson and Mathilda Jane Lewers of Castleblaney/Clontibret
« on: Monday 14 November 22 14:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, I'm am a descendant of David Dickson and Mathilda Lewers (3rd great-grandparents). Looking for info on this line.

David Dickson was born around 1821 in County Monaghan, probably in Castelblaney and married Mathilda Jane Lewers in Castleblaney on 8 Aug 1851. They later moved to NY, where my family resides to this day.

I have the names of the fathers (Thomas Dickson and Ross Lewers), but have been unable to find the mother's names.

I haven't been able to trace farther back than Thomas, but would really like to. I believe the Dickson line traces back to Scotland and the Lewers were likely descendants of French Huguenots.

I've traced the Lewers back to the well-known Rev. Robert Lewers Sr. and his parents, Samuel and I believe Margaret. But again, any further information would be very helpful.

I'm also interested in understand the wealth and standing of these families. It appears they were quite well off, but I don't have the historical knowledge to fully judge based on land valuations and such.

Lastly, if anyone knows the specific locations of the residences (like the actual houses/properites) of these families, Id love to know as I hope to visit sometime in the near future!

Thanks so much! I hadn't found the original marriage certificate before. But it doesn't list the names of the mothers--any suggestions on how to find out?

I have a newspaper clipping saying that Ross Lewers son (Ross Jr) was of Hugeunot descent, and I suspect that would be through the mother, but I've been unable to find any record of her.

Ross Lewers' will is available to read on the PRONI website, if you haven't already seen it:

https://apps.proni.gov.uk/WillsCalendar_IE/WillsSearch.aspx

He was a widower when he died:

Thank you! Yes, I have seen the Will. Unfortunately, no mention of the wife's name since she was already passed.

Have you seen this thread - Rev Robert Lewers?
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=491894.9

Reply #7 mentions Ross and the wife of the older Robert Lewers as (possibly) Margaret Ross.

There is also mention of the Dicksons

Yes, I've also thoroughly perused that thread, haha. But unfortunately still no mention of Ross Lewers wife. I think she is almost definitely the Huguenot connection, so I'm really eager to find her.
