Kilrea Marriages
« on: Tuesday 15 November 22 14:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I am looking for 2 marriages which both almost certainly took place in or close to Kilrea in Derry:

Alexander (or Alex) White to Margaret almost certainly in the early 1820s. I know of 3 children (John 1826, Mary Ann 1829 and Eliza Jane 1831, all baptised in Kilrea)

Andrew Diamond (or Dimond) to Mary Diamond (or Dimond) circa 1820. I know of at least 5 children (Hugh 1822, Roseanne 1824, Agnes 1825, James 1828 and Andrew 1828)

Any help anyone can offer will be very much appreciated. Keith

Well before civil registration so you'll need to search for church records (registers for that period may, or may not, survive but of those that do not all are available online).

Do you know what religions the couples might have been?

If Catholic lots of parish registers online (free)- https://registers.nli.ie/
     Kilrea marriages don't start until 1846- https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0360
     Errigal (Garvagh) also 1846- https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0367
Coleraine- nothing before civil registration (1864)
Can't see any earlier R.C. marriage registers in surrounding area.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

A transcript of a baptism for Eliza Jane is on FamilySearch and Ancestry, based on film number (908817) this appears to come from registers of Kilrea Parish Church of Ireland

Thank you both. Yes, I realise I will need to be looking at Church Records and have been looking on Roots Ireland. I have found the baptism of Eliza Jane White in 1831. Thanks.

You didn't answer my question about religion (remember marriages usually take place in the bride's church) but Kilrea COI have marriages starting 1802-1805 then 1829-1905 (microfilm available at PRONI); First Kilrea Presbyterian Church marriages start 1825 (2nd Kilrea from 1845). Details can be found in PRONI's Guide to Church Records-

The baptisms of the 3 White children I have found were all "Church of Ireland". Keith

Is it possible for the microfilms for Kilrea to be accessed online or do they need to be viewed in person (I am in England).

As far as I know you either need to visit PRONI in person or get a researcher to check then. If I'm incorrect I'm sure someone will be able to provide further details.
