1726 wedding at Leeds St Peter. Which church would that be exactly?
« on: Tuesday 15 November 22 22:22 GMT (UK) »
My ancestor Thomas Middleham (Midlam) was married to Anne Wison at Leeds St Peter on 26th May 1726. I can find the record of the marriage on Ancestry. I thought that given I am in Leeds this week I would visit the Church. The only St Peters Church I can find is a Catholic Church on Petersfield Avenue South of Leeds Leeds. I am pretty sure Thomas and Anne were not Catholics and the photographs of the church show it is relatively modern and would not have been there in 1726.

I am probably being a bit thick but can anyone with local knowledge help me to understand exactly where Thomas and Anne would have been married so I can visit if it is still standing.

Many Thanks.
Middleham, Ronson, Skinner, Rowe, Dennison, Weightman, Dalton, Rowe, Brown, Stead, Thompson, Nicholls, Porter, Brough, Pattinson, Wannop, Ruddick, Waugh mainly in Cumberland, Yorkshire, Scotland.

It might have been Leeds Minister, which I believe is also known as St Peter-at-Leeds.

EDIT: Hmm, it seems that church was built in 1841. So too late for your couple. Unless it was built on the site of an older church.

EDIT: Wikipedia does suggest there was a church on that site before. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leeds_Minster
;D Doing my best, but frequently wrong ;D
:-* My thanks to everyone who helps me, you are all marvellous :-*

The records relate to Leeds Minster (formally known as Leeds Parish Church).
