Commonwealth War Graves Commission are appealing for relatives of Lance Corporal Edgar Birks Dixon - Grenadier Guards - died 5/11/1918 -
Son of William and Ann Dixon, of Oak Mount, Helsby.

The private memorial marking the grave of Lance Corporal Dixon no longer provides adequate commemoration.  The Commission are in the process of producing a new headstone to mark his grave.

Possibly a younger sibling of Mary Elizabeth Wright.  1939 has a redacted entry, and there is a birth registration in 1936 - Wright - mmn Dixon - Runcorn Registration District.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

William Thomas Dixon born 4 10 1868 in Helsby and died 23 Sept 1953 at Oakmount Farm , Bates Lane, Helsby. He married Ann Birks 28 March 1895 in Chester, she was born 11 Sept 1867 in Hawarden,Flintshire and died 25 Oct 1949 in Helsby.
Son Edgar Birks Dixon born 21 Oct 1896 died 5 Nov 1918. Grenadier Guards Service number 24838
Memorial cross in the grounds of St Peters and St Pauls, Helsby.
7 Oct 1918 Pte. Edgar Dixon, Grenadier Guards has been wounded in the face and is in hospital at Fallowfield, Manchester. This is the third time he has been wounded.
16 Nov 1918 Corp. E B Dixon laid to rest. A military service firing party and bearers from Warrington.
Joined the Grenadier Guards 1915 and went to France 1916. In August 1916 he was wounded and the following months suffered shell shock.
In September last he was wounded in the face. This proved fatal as he passed to rest on  15th November 1918.
His last wish was to get back to the lads..
He had a brother William Ewart Dixon born 24 Oct 1898 and a sister Rhoda Mary Dixon born 25 Oct 1903
