Stanley, Photographer in Dublin around 1890
« on: Saturday 19 November 22 12:18 GMT (UK) »
I'd be grateful if anybody could anybody could point me to a site giving access to information about a photographer called Stanley (surname) producing 'cartes de visite' in Dublin about this date.

I have three of these of known family and am trying to make out is whether they were all taken at the same time. One of these was dated here as about 1889 (John Little and wife), the others may be later (their children).  The subjects  of all three left for South Africa in 1896.

I've tried Google. Can't get into the right part of the only site which might have this!
Any help please?
LITTLE - Lancs, Cheshire. Dumbarton, Dublin and Glasgow - and South Africa. Also Canada

PRICE, ALLEN, JONES, JACKSON - Gwersyllt and Wrexham

ANDREWS, DOWSE, MEMERY - Dublin, US, and Canada

From the Evening Herald (Dublin) - Wednesday 04 December 1895
Implies that he may have just opened for business in 1895, or maybe he has just relocated to a new address in Dublin?

I’ve now found an actual opening announcement dated December 20th 1893, content otherwise very similar.

(Evening Herald (Dublin) - Wednesday 20 December 1893)

added: J E Stanley has adverts in the same newspaper throughout the 1890s, ending in 1898. The British Newspaper Archive includes a run of this title up to 1902 so this suggests that something happened in 1898: death or retirement perhaps.

Wondered if the "Stanley" on your Cartes de Visite looked like the "Stanley" in the link?. I believe by 1910 J E Stanley has been take over by Lafayette.

Thanks to all....but my last reply doesn't seem to have got here

i was trying to draw a conclusion...were John Little and wife wearing slightly outdated clothes?
They were dated 1889 here by the clothing...

I also put in a find, of Lauder Bros at the same address, 32 WESTMORELAND STREET - I put in a link which I've now lost, sorry! and a similar carte photo somewhere on Rootschat, with no date.

 - the background of that photo was very similar - did Stanley take over their studio?

Without checking back, I think Lauder were also part of the Lafayette takeover.
