The link with Lauder Bros - https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=747610.0
The backdrop's very similar to that in two of my photos.

Any comments on my family theory, please?

Making it Lauder Bros....then Stanley... then Lafayette/Lauder Bros?

Dublin Daily Nation, 7 Feb 1898
LAFAYETTE LIMITED
"... Company formed to aquire and carry on the well known business of M. Lafayette at Dublin ...; and also to acquire the businesses of Lauder Brothers and E J Stanley**, Photographers of Dublin ..."

** - think this should read "J E Stanley"?

Ah, that makes sense now.

But I started this thread really to find out when the three photos I have from Stanley's were taken. That's John and wife, son Matthew, and 4 daughters.

They comprise the part of my family which went to SA in 1896. Not my grandfather Andrew - who refused to go, which is why I'm in the UK!

If John and wife were wearing slightly out of date clothes, all the photos were taken at least 6 years after we thought. And not taken to John's father's funeral in Lancashire in 1889.

Which doesn't rule out the fact that John's picture did end up in New Zealand as well as here....
via SA.... several people's family tree dating could be affected by this!

Comments please? Alison
