The driver badge was different apparently.

This apparently is what the occupation of driver was in WW1:-

Driver (Dvr) was a military rank used in the British Army and the armies of other Commonwealth countries. It was equivalent to the rank of private. The rank was initially used in the Royal Artillery for the men who drove the teams of horses which pulled the guns.

The badge image I gave you shows a gun on wheels.  Could this in fact be the right one?

I don't think it is. The driver badge was like a curvy star. I saw a battalion photo for that time and they all had the same badge you sent, more of a triangle shape
