Trying to find Charles Metcalf
« on: Wednesday 23 November 22 00:51 GMT (UK) »
Hello from New Zealand,

I am trying to find out about a young man named Charles Conyers Metcalf who was born in 1845. He was from St George in the East, Middlesex and Shadwell St Paul, Middlesex, England. I am thinking this fellow maybe the same as the Charles Metcalf who died coming to NZ in 1863 as a cabin passenger on board the ship "Captain Cook" you can see him metioned here https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/TC18631013.2.9?end_date=31-12-1863&items_per_page=100&query=Charles+Metcalf&snippet=true&start_date=01-01-1863.

Any assistance would be wonderful,

Warmest regards,

Ashley

Hi
1861 St Pauls Shadwell Victoria St next to the pub C? Arms
William Metcalfe 43 cheesemonger  St Katherines
Matilda 34 St George in the East
Charles 16 cheesemongers assistant ditto
James 11 at sea
Mary Ann 5 Shadwell.

By 1866 and James's marriage ,he and father William are both mariners .So it seems the cheese business did not last long.
No sign of Charles after that.
