Thournhaugh,Northamptonshire Marriage look up help
« on: Wednesday 23 November 22 11:49 GMT (UK) »
Good morning I hope all are well,
I am very new to this site so I do apologise in advance if I don't quite get this right!
I wonder if anybody could help me find some information on a marriage between :
John Hare (Hayre) and Jane Gilbert on 30th October 1815 in the parish of Thornhaugh, Northamptonshire at all please?
I am looking particularly for John's and Jane's occupations and fathers.
I have the image from Nortrhamptonshire marriages 1754 -1912 and I believe this is my family, though I feel John may be in Apethorpe in 1833.
Apologies again
Any guidance at all would be very much appreciated
Donna

Parish marriage records at that time do not include father's names.  However, William Gilbert was a witness to this marriage.  No occupations.  John is said to be "of this Parish".  Jane is said to be of the parish of Yaxley in the county of Huntingdon, and did not sign her name.  Image is available on Ancestry.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Good afternoon ColC
Thanks for getting back to me,
Yes I believe that is the family.
I also believe they had 2 other children, Sarah 1826 in Yaxley and Robert 1831 in Stilton.
It looks like the spelling of the surname evolved to Hayre with son William.
I have hit a bit of a wall with John but I will keep searching.
I really cannot thank you enough for your kind response.
All the best
Donna

I note on the parish registers on Ancestry there are a number of possible baptisms for John at Kingscliffe in the 20 years before 1797; it is 3 miles from Thornhaugh.

If they followed the English naming pattern, John’s father would be William (not all did) the only baptism in the above period below.
John Hayers   Baptism   3 Jan 1790   Kingscliffe   William

However that may not be the case for Jane, there are only two baptisms on Ancestry which may be worth a look?

Mother Jane   Jane Gilbert
Baptism   1 Jan 1786 Great Gransden, Huntingdonshire (23 miles from Yakley)

Or

Jane Gilbert
Baptism 6 Dec 1789
Barnack, Northamptonshire
Barnack is 10 miles from Yaxley.
Father Francis Gilbert
Mother Mary Gilbert

Colin thank you so much
I have believed for a while my Hayres were connected to those at Kingscliffe but a cannot just assume without concrete evidence.
I believe that John and Jane's first child was indeed William baptised 1816 in Ufford.
The various spellings of the name...Hare, Hayre, Haire,Hair etc. make this line of research particularly challenging, but with the help of good people like yourselves on this site I am sure I will get there!
All the best
