Again matches John s/o William baptised 1790 born 1789
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

As you suggested, it looks as if he took 20 years or so off his age to narrow the age difference.

Looking at the rellies with him in 1861, Austins (probably mother and daughter) and Mary Beddow. Don't seem to appear anywhere before or after.

Thank you everyone, alot of suggestions for me to mull over, i have been trying to find an answer for years and this winters task is to find an answer 100 percent as to john and his father William. just for the record, John born in 1844 in prees mmn ecclestone married Ann Richards in Wolstanton Newcastle under lyme in 1870 they had 7 children including my gg grandad Samuel born 1874

If it helps, the one we identified was

Prees  bpts
25 July 1790
John son (aged 1 year and 6 weeks) of William Huxley, weaver,  and his wife Mary formerly Hopwood (see Reply #22)

We ascertain that he'd reduced his  age by 10 or so years  because of the wide age gap between him and Elizabeth

Hi, just an update. I have found more children for William and Mary.  George 1790, Jane 1792, Sarah 1794, Ann 1799, I just need to find proof that these children are Williams and Marys. We already know about John 1789, Thomas 1801 and Another George 1803.  think i found this on Ancestry. Thanks for all your help
