New North Yorkshire records on Ancestry.
« on: Friday 02 December 22 22:25 GMT (UK) »
Just seen lots of new North Yorkshire records on Ancestry.

However when i go to view the original record for marriages and Banns 1754-onwards, it tells me to sign up when I already have a sub to Anc and I stay logged in.

I can still view the 1538-1812 collection though.

Coombs, the same is happening for me, how frustrating!  The Deaths & Burials take me straight to the PR pages though.   Births & Baptisms are part greyed out, the event date & place being a blur.

The Banns for my grandparents Robert Williamson & Annie Carter come up twice in the results - she has been transcribed as Curter and Carlier, and the latter has the wrong year - so we still have the old Ancestry problems with transcriptions ;)

Nevertheless this will be a good addition to Ancestry though FindMyPast also has the same and to be fair, Annie is Curter on one of theirs!

Some parishes are not yet on the database such as Romaldkirk. I guess more will come soon.

"Births & Baptisms are part greyed out, the event date & place being a blur."

BUT you can view the actual parish register entry, even though it is a little frustrating not to immediately identify the parish and year - not like the problem with marriages.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

BumbleB - You are right, I can view the image by clicking on the icon in the column on the right.   Thanks for pointing that out.

However, if I click on the left column View Record I am requested to sign up and pay.  If I just let the cursor hover over the View Record then another window appears.  If I then click on the uppermost image of a Parish Register page in that window, then that opens OK.  The system is a bit hit and miss but nevertheless will be a very welcome addition.

Romaldkirk has been in Co Durham since 1974 so I guess the N Yorks registers on Ancestry are for current North Yorkshire as opposed to historic North Yorks.
