James Conway parents help please

It seems that I have been duped by the old family tree copying with regard to James Conway 1849 to 1930.
James emigrated to New Zealand and married Johanna O'keefe in 1882 .
He was reportedly born in Egremont Cumberland to a Daniel and Mary Anne Wilkinson .
I can find no evidence of his birth to these parents or Daniel Conway and Ellen as it states in yet another family tree .
I have tried searching in Egremont Carmarthenshire records also to no avail.

Does the marriage or death cert show any parent name?  There is one 1851 entry for Cumberland for a Daniel Conway but wife was Ellen & 2yr old son was Frank.

When did James arrive in NZ?

Is there any documentary evidence shown on the trees you mention to support his birthyear & birthplace & parents names?

According to the tree - he was living in Battersea in February 1871?  There is no marriage post 1837 for a Daniel Conway to a Mary Wilkinson who were allegedly his parents

I don't have the death or marraige certificate but that would be my last resort possibly.

I don't have any immigration information but James bought land in 1880 in New Zealand so he was here then.

I don't believe that Daniel and Ellen were his parents if that is the Daniel that was born in 1826 and died in the USA in 1865

There are no sources or evidence for James parentage on any family trees unfortunately

I have checked 1851/61/71 censuses but there is no match to the profile given.  Unless his parents emigrated sometime between his birth & the 1851 census there are no records of him in England. 

Have you contacted the tree owner & asked where they got their info from?

The reference to being in Battersea in 1871 appears to be Railway employee records which show employment commencing Feb 1871 & continuing as at 1877.  There is nothing on either of the 3 records to identify him as the same James Conway who married in NZ

The records do not show any birthplace

Marriage & death certs seem the best way forward.  I have messaged the tree owner via Ancestry with the link to this post asking them to take a look
