I would say marriage cert on the grounds that any info re himself & parents would have been given by him personally.  His death cert is dependant on the knowledge of the person reporting his death

Yes James died in Martinborough but was buried in Picton with Johanna.
I've always assumed the Conways were Irish .
I can only request NZ certificates so I will try with the marraige certificate.

Hi,
This is now completed with the marraige certificate confirming that James was born in Cumberland England to Daniel and Mary (nee Wilkinson ) Conway.
I guess I just need to keep digging for information on Daniel and Mary .
