Amos Sole
« on: Tuesday 06 December 22 19:18 GMT (UK) »
I’m trying to find records for my 3x great-uncle Amos Sole. I am unable to find out what happened to him after the 1841 census. I have found the following two records:

1. Baptism: 31st August 1823 Woodnesborough, Kent. Amos Sole. Son of Edward Sole and Rosanna [Rose Hannah Drayson].

2. 1841 Census. The Parsonage, Woodnesborough. Amos Soles, age 15 (b.1826), born in Kent. Occupation - agricultural labourer.

As I can’t find Amos in any census after 1841 I assumed he must have died but I can’t locate a death record either. Can anybody find any marriage, death or census records for Amos? Thanks

He is certainly elusive! I have been round all the basic sources which you will have already done, with no luck. I wonder if he changed his name.

There is an Amos Sole with Esther Taylor whose daughter Lydia A Arnold died 22 Jan 1895 . Bangor, Maine, United States. She was 51. Image on Family Search: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9398-Q19D-6W?i=1469&cc=1803978&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AVZ3W-ZR4

I don’t think the Amos Sole in Maine is the right Amos as he appears to have been born in Vassalboro which is in Maine. It is possible he moved abroad but the record needs to say he was born in Kent, England. If he didn’t move abroad the only other two options are he changed his name or he died and his name was recorded incorrectly.

Unfortunately the John Amos William Solly who died in 1861 isn’t who I’m looking for. According to the parish burial record he was only 20 months old when he died.

Just wondering if you knew what it said under Amos' name on his baptism record?
To me it looks like it says ''Or'' and then another word beginning with an ''A''. Also it might just be me but the O in Amos looks like it could be an ''i''?
(this is probably nothing, just noticed it on the baptism)
Will keep looking  :)

Also the name looks more like Dole.  I did a little research on this earlier in the day and Lydia appears to have been born Lydia Doe.

These seem to be brothers and sisters:
Baptism: Mary Ann Sole . 30 October 1825 . Woodnesborough, Kent, Edward Sole . Rosanna
Baptism: Frances Sole . 16 March 1828 . Woodnesborough, Kent, Edward Sole . Rosanna
Christening: Edward Sole . 26 December 1830 . Woodnesborough, Kent, Edward Sole . Rosanna
Christening: John Sole . 3 June 1836 . Woodnesborough, Kent, Edward Sole . Rosanna
Christening: Rosanna Sole . 17 June 1838 . Woodnesborough, Kent, Edward Sole . Rosanna

Marriage: Mary Ann Sole . Samuel Sawer . 14 April 1857 . Chatham, Kent

It seems from the other marriages they then moved west into Sussex.
