Hannah Woods - After 1901?
« on: Thursday 08 December 22 23:39 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Hoping someone can help me, I'm trying to find what happened my Great Aunt Hannah Woods after the 1901 census, she was age 19 working as servant in Glanworth. I've checked death certs and marriage certs on Ireland Genealogy and I can't find anyone that fits and I can't find her under her maiden name on the 1911 census. Maybe she emigrated but I can't find anyone that fits under Ellis Island records. Any help would be great. She was born on March 03, 1878 in Castletownroche, baptised on March 10th. Her parents were Richard Woods & Mary Daly, Castletownroche.

Thanks,
Alan

Is the Denis Woods Coachman aged 26 on the 1901 census related to Hannah? ie brother?
He (Denis) appears on the 1911 census with a brother Richard aged 20 who is a labourer.

ETA There is a Hannah Woods 30, plain sewer in the Dublin Workhouse records of 1909

A Hannah Woods, postulant leaves Queenstown (Cobh) on the Cedric for New York

I cannot find any notes of age etc.

The other idea would be to follow the siblings (Richard/Denis) and see if she is with them at any stage.  Would these be your gt Uncles?

Thanks for this, the woman who left for NY might be her, i'll check the Ellis Island Records for that date. Denis Woods is my Great Grandfather, Richard emigrated to Chicago in 1912 I know his descendants and he died in the 1940's. Ellen Doyle listed on the 1901 census with Hannah and Denis married Denis and is my Great Grandmother.

I just checked the Ellis Island records - that Hannah Woods in 1913 does not match up, she's listed as 18, my Great Aunt would have been 35 in 1913 and also there is a May Su Woods travelling with her age 17, both listed as place of birth Limerick Junction. I've never heard of a relation May Su Woods and Hannah Woods was born in Castletownroche on March 3rd, 1878.

I know it’s no help but presumably this is sister, Bridget - also in Illinois.

Yes it is, that's who Richard Woods emigrated to, neither the descendants of Richard, Bridget or my family know what happened to Hannah. Possibly this could be her - but the age is 9 years off, but I know age on death certs can often be wrong - chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1907/05509/4544020.pdf

Very unlikely that her cousin would get her age wrong by 10 years!

Good find, heywood  :D

This is probably the marriage of their parents - 6 November 1866

That's the closest one I could find - and her cousin could be her mother or father's cousin - a housekeeper got their daughter a job in service as a favour and barely knew her. Question, why is Listowel listed as in County Limerick?

Just to clarify, she came from a family of 13 children from Castletownroche, I know what happened to all the other 12 and her 2 parents, she's the last unknown piece of the family.
