William Whelan
« on: Monday 12 December 22 19:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone
Still on the trail of my grandmother Catherine Kearns so far with the help of another Rootchatter l now have details of Catherine's early life but moving on to her marriage to William Whelan 30th Jan 1921 at Moon Church witnesses Edward Moran & Mary Whelan sister or sister-in-law?
William
Catherine gives birth to son William junior Athy Workhouse 13th May 1921but leaves William 1yr 6months after marriage. Later son William goes into some kind of Industrial School where I'm not sure  haven't found any records and don't think she had any contact with him. I have tried to locate Williams whereabouts without success.
Christopher Whelan is named as Father to William Snr Catherine's father-in-law but finding him on 1901 census shows as unmarried ? He lives Ballytore as did Catherine & William. I'm a little stuck as to what happened to William junior or his father William Senior.
Any input appreciated many thanks

According to aghadowey's link to the 1921 birth of William, he was born on 30th May 1921 in Athy Maternity inside Athy Workhouse.

Have you searched around these records?

Marriage 1875 - Christopher Whelan, Moone
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1875/11206/8106894.pdf

This is tricky
Birth of William Whelan, 1882 in index - copy is covered but there is a glimpse of ‘Christopher,’ as father

Good find on William's birth record, heywood- looks like sello tape on the page is covering up that entry.

The 'not married' Christopher Whelan in 1901-

Marriage in 1910 as bachelor-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1910/10002/5637609.pdf
Christopher Whelan and wife Rose in 1911-
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kildare/Carrigeen/Hughstown/538846/
Christopher Whelan of Ballytore- age 67, labourer, married-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1931/04903/4329309.pdf
Note that the previous entry is for a married woman Bridget Whelan of Moone but the informant is brother William Whelan of Moone

Going to throw this bit in for other opinions.

Christopher Whelan married 10 Apr.1875 to Bridget Ward.

Daughter Mary Whelan born 29 Apr.1875.

She married Patrick Neill-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1896/10509/5827954.pdf
Son John born 1897
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1897/02104/1801492.pdf

Bridget Whelan (married) & daughter Mary Neil (married) in 1901-
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Kildare/Moone/Kilkea___Moone__Barony_/1434346/ (both husbands not in household- are they away somewhere working?)

Also a daughter Anne Whelan born 1879 (haven't found her after that)-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1880/02883/2056658.pdf

Is this Christopher Whelan in 1901?
