The Charles Amis son of Thomas and Elizabeth was born Bradwell NOT Hanworth

He did marry Susannah Jefferies 8 November 1837 with father named Thomas and witnesses
Thomas Amis and Emily Amis

None could write

They can be traced using the census and are together in Bradwell Suffolk 1871

So not your Charles

Their first child George was baptized Bradwell Suffolk 26 May 1839

Registered Mutford and Lothingland 1839 AMOS George  mmn Jefferies
Ref: GRO Index

Bradwell is described as both in Norfolk and Suffolk so the county line must cross.

Other children
Maria 1841, Thomas 1843, Charlotte 1847.

Is your interest in this family through one of the children listed on the 1861 England Census?.

Which son or daughter?

Thank you all so much for your help!! Him being the illegitimate son makes a lot more sense and so does him marrying Mary Chapman rather than Susannah Jeffries.
wivenhoe: my interest was through Mary Ann Amis; the 1 year old daughter on the 1861 census
Thanks again,  :)
Sorry for asking another question, but just wondering if whilst anyone was looking found a baptism for the James Amis living nextdoor to Charles and his family or just any way to link him to Charles biologically?

South Repps St. James baptism register

James Amis born 15 May 1802 bap. 23 May 1802 mother Frances Amis - no father listed

Ref: FreeReg

I would conclude they share the same mother

Hi wivenhoe, this looks like it could be Esther thank you for finding all that information! Just wondering, how did you know that Mary Amis was her aunt, would that mean she's the older sister of Charles Amis + illegitimate daughter of Frances?

Also, re the marriage of Mary Amis and George Coleman; do you mean the Mary Amis that is the daughter of Mary Chapman + Charles Amis b.1833? If so that looks like it's probably correct so thank you! But if you mean my ancestor Mary Amis; she is the daughter of Charles Amis + Frances Slapp and was born in 1860 and so couldn't be her (she married Thomas Fletcher). But looks like it's the other Mary so thank you!

Also, thank you amondg for finding that baptism for James!
