I'm trying to find out without much success if there was a family called Marshall at Stocks Farm Buttermere in the 1800s

About 1870 s  I have a Mary Jane Marshall and that's all at the moment

Have you checked the 1871 & 1881 censuses for her?

What document did you get the address from & where did you get her name from?

I got the name of the farm from a friend they are her relatives She knew one of the daughters married an Edward Boardman who was a Commercial Artist

Edward BOARDMAN  and Mary Jane MARSHALL married Oct qtr 1875 Bootle.

Modified to add:
There is a public tree on Ancestry for them, however it has no parents for Mary Jane MARSHALL. It does have her birth 29 May 1854, Harrington. (no sources given)

On the 1911 census for Edward and Mary Jane BOARDMAN, Mary does indeed say born Harrington.

There is this family in 1861 looks likely at Derwent St (I think) Harrington

Maria                       40   Ireland
Hannah                    13  Harrington
Maria                       10
Mary Jane                  6
