"Little" Lodge Llanspyddid Breconshire
« on: Friday 16 December 22 06:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I have a burial record for Timothy Wathan 1826 at Llanfihangel Nant Bran, age 82. However he died in "Little Lodge" Llanspyddid, see attached. He married Ngharael Powell in LlNB in 1768.

I found a "Parc Lodge" on Google Earth opposite a track leading to Gludy that may be the same building, but no other references to it.

Another Timothy Wathan married Alice Powell in Llanspyddid in 1813. I think the Wathan family lived mostly in Llanfihangel Nant Bran, but spread out to Battle and Brecon City in the early 1800s.

I would like to know where "Little Lodge" was located and details of the ancestry of Richard Wathan shopkeeper of Brecon who married Ciss (Cicily) Williams in Llywel in 1800. He was living in Llanfihangel Nant Bran at the time.

Any data will be gratefully received!

Best Wishes

Llanfi  :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Not finding his parents either

This might be useful?

The Cambrian: 3rd January 1824
List of premiums paid by the Brecknockshire Agricultural Society

The first labourers' premium of two guineas, to Timothy Wathan. of Penpont, for 42 years' faithful service

There's a  manor house at Penpont with a building called The Lodge as part of the estate. Maybe there was a further "little Lodge" at another entrance?

That’s a good find  :)

Looking at the nls map there is a stream called Cwm Lodge running through the estate, maybe the building is named after the stream rather than being a conventional lodge

Hello All!

Particularly Mazi, Mabel Bagshawe,Talacharn, and ciderdrinker!

I am inclined to accept Llanspyddid as the location.

That is because a Timothy Wathan married Alice Powell there in 1813, and there is an Upper Lodge, Lower Lodge and another tiny lodge near Gludy, Please see attached. I think this tiny lodge is early Victorian from the image on Google Earth.

Penpont is a very distinct Parish, and the Manor was owned by Penry Williams along with swaths of land in the area. The Timothy Wathan from Little Lodge Llanpsyddid  was was buried in 1826 at the age pf 82 is probably the labourer who was awarded the two guineas for faithful service, His family came from Llanfihangel Nant Bran so it was fitting that he was buried there,

The Timothy who married Alice Powell may have been his son, but I can't find any record.

Thanks for all your help. This is a wonderful Forum!

Cheers,

LLanfi :) :) :) :) :) :)
