Looking for marriage of Richard le Cras
« on: Monday 19 December 22 13:48 GMT (UK) »
Two children, Jean and Francois,  were baptised in St Laurence, Jersey in 1738 and 1740 respectively. The parents were Richard le Cras jnr and Priscilla Tucker his wife.
Can anyone please find the marriage for this couple?

I had a look here:
http://search.jerripediabmd.net/Default

and on Ancestry - which hold the images of the parish registers - but no luck, I'm afraid. The only marriage I can see for a Richard Le Cras Jr. is to a Sara Arthur in 1742 in St. Mary, Jersey. Both are described as of the parish of St. Lawrence, so I am guessing this is his second marriage, although I cannot actually find a death for Priscilla.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thank you, I'd looked at Jerripedia and Ancestry as well, but didn't find the marriage to Sarah Arthur. As you say possibly second marriage.
I think Richard may be the Richard baptised on 4 April 1697 s/o Richard. The most likely mother is Elizabeth le Gros. They are probably also the parents of my direct ancestor Caterine le Cras. On a previous thread about her, a kind Rootschatter found that a Richard le Cras was godfather to one Caterine's children. I thought at the time that meant Richard her father. That was before I found she had a brother Richard.

As I have now found a DNA match to someone descended from le Cras family of Jersey, I am revisiting this branch of my family.

Found a burial for Priscilla on Jerripedia 26 Apr 1741, (as Prisille) gives her maiden name as well and says wife of Richard

Good find. I have never researched in French-speaking countries before, so the name variants are new to me!

So you are descended from Catherine Le Cras, who was most likely baptised on 11 Mar 1711 in St Lawrence to father Richard. I see that her godparents were Mr. Elie Dumaresq and his wife.

The godparents of Richard Le Cras, baptised 4 Apr 1697 to a father Richard were also Mr. Elie Dumaresq and his wife, so I would say your theory is very plausible.

Are you looking to go back a generation to Catherine's parents? I imagine you have already traced all the godparents of Catherine's children (what a blessing to have godparents on baptism records, I must say!); I wonder whether it would be worth trying to trace all the godparents of Richard's children, including with his second wife? You never know what it might throw up.

Also probably worth tracing all the godparents of Richard and Catherine's siblings too; the ones I can see look like they are from very prominent and illustrious Jersey families. Maybe worth looking at their wills too?

You may have already done all this, but I thought I would mention it anyway.

Thanks for your suggestionss, I am just starting on Caterine's siblings now. Apart from Richard 1697 and Caterine herself baptised in 1711, I only have Marie 1701 and Jean 1703, so with the gaps there are probably more.

My DNA match is descended from Francois le Cras, who he has as baptised  in 1746 s/o Phillippe, but I'm wondering if it could be Francois s/o Richard jnr
