Commonwealth War Graves Commission are appealing for blood relatives of Pvt Tibor Kleedorfer - Pioneer Corps - died20/3/1942 - buried Newport Jewish Cemetery.

The private memorial marking the grave of Pvt Kleedorfer no longer provides adequate commemoration.  The Commission are in the process of producing a new headstone to mark his grave.

his name is on the list of Second World War Enemy Aliens & Internees. Date of birth given as 12 April 1920. Place of birth Budapest, Hungary, nationality German (by annexation).
Address Church Farm, Leonard Stanley Nr Stroud.

The other side of the index card shows his employer as Hawkes of Church Farm, Leonard Stanley, nr Stroud (address as given above). He was exempted from internment on 19 October 1939, presumably to serve in the Pioneer Corps.

Parents Johann Kleedorfer (b 1889) and Ella (b 1900). His father was born in Vienna, and they’d been living there since 1925 – hence ‘German by annexation’.

The family applied twice to emigrate to England, in 1938 and 1939. Application forms here ...

Sadly, it doesn’t look like Tibor had siblings.

The Sandler Hom family tree on Ancestry (owner - fivehoms) has Tibor’s parents, suggesting that his mother Ella survived the Holocaust. Worth getting in touch, perhaps?
