Some years ago I the CWGC were looking for relatives for someone who was buried locally to me even though they weren't a local.

I traced his family to Liverpool and managed to move forward to living relatives. I contacted CWGC and they told me that the family had to contact them so I wrote a letter to the family together with enclosures including the family tree I had worked up and the copy of the section of the CWGC website where they ask for living relatives.

As I had included a phone number the family rang me and I explained what had happened and they subsequently rang the relevant department at the CWGC where they were brushed off, when they rang to tell me about this they were very disappointed in CWGC attitude as was I.    I had undertaken a lot of work on the tree and search for the family.

It makes me very wary of doing this account.   Sorry to be so pessimistic.

Don't worry, there are lots of little helpers and it is great to make a break through and find these long lost blood relatives.  Not all appeals are successful and some lines do die out or are not enough of a near relative for CWGC purposes.

Yes, the rules changed in 2018 - With the new GDPR regulations CWGC were unable to instigate contact with anyone without their permission.

Many people that I have dealt with, have found CWGC most helpful, so perhaps, yours was just a one off.

My contact is very appreciative of information.

Best Wishes.
Merry Christmas

Thank you but I had noted that there was 24 trees with very poor information and possibly all copied from each other with varying mistakes -  Bertie birth recorded as Norway ????  death in 1918 ranging from Indiana - Pennsylvania -  ???  He actually died in Springburn Stobhill  Hospital Glasgow !!  Not sure they are going to be nearer enough blood relations to be helpful to CWGC wityh a re-dedication of a headstone in Mostyn. Flintshire.  Still trying to narrow down who might be the most effect contact

UK, Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects, 1901-1929

Pvt Bertie Stanley Lee - Springburn Stobhill Hospital . Glasgow - died 4 November 1918
Regiment:   1st Sth W Bdrs - Regimental Number:   46839
Father Robert.
