Bill Rogers' caravan park, Dedworth
« on: Tuesday 20 December 22 15:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi
If anyone has any information or, even better, photos of Bill Rogers' caravan park, Dedworth, near Windsor, I'd be very interested. The site was at Castle Farm, near Dedworth in the late 1950s and early 1960s. I'm pretty sure there is a Tesco's supermarket on the site now!
Anything else about Dedworth from that era would also be interesting, such as the Wolf pub.

I know it's a long shot, but thanks for reading.

Mike

A few mentions of the Wolf Inn over the years in old newspapers (at least from about 1843), including this advertisement for the sale of the land in 1883.

A few reports of inquests held there at different times, and a report in 1920 of it being burgled - 2 bicycles were stolen but the till and some foreign coins were discarded.

A few mentions of Castle Farm Dedworth, family notices etc. The families seem to be SPENCER and WESTON, up to around 1944.

There was a death at the Castle Farm caravan site in 1951. The Uncle (Ernest JONES) of the murdered man (William Edward STROUD) was first charged with murder, reduced to manslaughter, then acquitted in Jan 1952.

Thanks Maddy. The murder caught my eye, being a Jones myself, but the accused was no relative.

There wasn't much detail about the case that I could see, perhaps more in a local paper. STROUD had been strangled, though JONES said he did not intend to hurt him (not sure how you can strangle someone but not intend to hurt them ...).

I also meant to add that there is this application for a garage at Castle Farm, Dedworth Rd in 1929 by W J ROGERS.
