THOMAS TUTTY WW1 1915
« on: Tuesday 20 December 22 17:34 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me to find the burial place of WW1 soldier THOMAS TUTTY who died on 23 Nov 1915. Aged 27, he had served with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers and had been medically discharged shortly before his death. He died in the Mercer's hospital and his death registration gives an address at 14 Bow Lane/ James street. The family were Church of Ireland.
On 15 June 1909 Thomas married Ellen Bradley at St Werburgh's Parish Church. They had two children - Christina born in 1910 and John born 1911.
His Pension Card gives an address at High Street, Dublin; probably his widow moved to that address after his death.
Thomas Tutty is one of the "Forgotten Soldiers" who died as a result of war service but did not receive recognition as a war casualty. Does anyone know where he is buried?

Have you tried contacting Mount Jerome  ?

many Protestant burials there

If he was born somewhere outside Dublin might be worth checking graveyards near the family also

Additional to my original post.
THOMAS was the son of Edward and Anne Tutty (nee Tuke). He was born on 12/3/1888 at 18 Hanbury Lane, Dublin. He had two older siblings - Samuel (1877) and Rose (1881); both born at Hanbury Lane.
Edward Tutty died on 2 Nov 1889 at Hanbury Lane, some 20 months after Thomas was born. Anne Tutty died on 29 Dec 1909 at 55 Pimlico; her death was registered by Thomas.
My primary search is for Thomas's grave but any info re the final resting place of Edward/Anne would be much appreciated.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far.

No sign of Thomas or his parents that I see in Glasnevin or Deansgrange - still think Mount Jerome is the best chance... most of the smaller old graveyards in the city were closed to burials by the mid 1800s, so the outlying cemeteries are more likely..

I see Edward and Anne married in Co. Wicklow, so it's possible that some family burials are in that area.. if I remember right the address for Thomas was Arklow and the marriage was Castlemacadam

Pimlico and Hanbury Lane were both in St. Catherine's Church of Ireland parish, the church does have a small graveyard attached which closed in 1898, burials should be included on IrishGenealogy. The graveyard is now a park, most of the headstones now moved from their original position.  I had a quick look for any mention of Tutty deaths but did not see any for St. Catherine

You can search a very large collection of Mount Jerome headstone transcripts on the IGP website, obviously this will not include burials without a headstone or other memorial.

For a full burial search contact the office at Mount Jerome, they are very helpful, a search should be straightforward for them once they have name and date of death

Other Dublin city Church of Ireland burials would usually be included in the parish registers, most of the surviving registers for the city area are on IrishGenealogy. Other Church of Ireland parish records are generally held by the RCB Library.
