Alexander Douglas
« on: Tuesday 20 December 22 21:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone
I'm trying to find the parents of Alexander Douglas who married Sarah McKay or Mckie In Carlisle . Marriage dated Dec 14 1782 or 1781 . They were the parents of Elizabeth Douglas born Carlisle Sept 11th 1792. I was hoping that if I could find the actually marriage record itself it would at least give me the name of Alexander's father. I can't at the moment remember where I found the date of their marriage , possibly familysearch or findmypast .
Any help will be very much appreciated.

Fathers names were not shown on marriage entries prior to 1.7.1837 which was when Civil Registration was introduced

All are Transcriptions ( not original images):

This appears to be the marriage you reference - but the wife is Elizabeth, not Sarah
Alexander Douglas and Elizabeth McKey, married 14 Sep 1782 Carlisle

Baptism:
Elizabeth Douglas bp 11 Sep 1791 Carlisle, parents Alexander Douglas, Sarah McKay, or ALT
Elizabeth Douglas bp 11 Sep 1792 Carlisle St Mary, parents Alexander Douglas, Sarah McKie

Also, baptisms:
John 26 Oct 1783 Carlisle St Mary (d 24 Jul 1784), to Alexander Douglas & Elizabeth
William 24 Jul 1785 Carlisle St Mary, to Alexander Douglas & Eliz
Margaret 3 Feb 1788 Carlisle St Mary, to Alexander Douglas & Elizabeth McKey

Cheers

I notice on family search Alexander Douglas & Elizabeth McKay had another daughter Margaret baptised 21 August 1799, also Mary  7 April 1793, both at Wigton. There is also a death record for John in Carlisle 24 July 1784.

No baptisms for Alexander or Elizabeth in Cumberland on Ancestry but plenty for both on
