Arthur Rose's death on SP index:

Arthur ROSE
Age 56
Mother's maiden name FARLE (as indexed)
1863
229 / 30
Old Meldrum

Arthur's 1861 census entry with wife Catherine in Aberdeenshire gives his occupation as a tailor like Hugh.

Robert’s father, George Alexander was apparently a Lieutenant in the Invernesshire Militia and I wondered whether there might be a connection between George A and Margaret’s father.

Are these details from Robert's death registration (father's name and occupation)?

There is this possible 1851 census entry which could be him www.freecen.org.uk/search_records/5903ddbde9379091b10bd93f/george-alexander-1851-morayshire-elgin-1780-?locale=en

Futher bio for him here http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/people/people_report_view.asp?REF_ID=NM001080

Old post here on RC about the Inverness-shire Militia for background (you will find lots on line for it) www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=552606.0
