Wroxton (probably) Marriage 1735

I am looking for a record of a marriage that I think took place in Wroxton in 1735 between John Hughes and Sarah Dillo.

This information comes from a note that a relative made about a decade ago when looking at this branch of the family. Unfortunately there's no source to verify it. I do have an ancestry subscription and I can't find any record there. They do have images of registers for Wroxton on ancestry but there is a gap for marriages between 1717 and 1740!

Would anyone be able to help me find (or disprove) this information!

I have had a look for you, but have also had no luck finding this marriage.

If the parish register is incomplete, might it be worth seeking out the Bishop's Transcripts for this parish?

The Bishop's Transcripts for 1735 for Wroxton All Saints are held by the Oxford History Centre (OHC). Perhaps it is worth contacting them?

The site also says that the OHC holds the parish register for marriages between 1552-1972 [gap 1556-70, 1683-93]. No gap between 1717 and 1740 according to this, maybe another thing to mention if you contact the OHC?

As you mention the parish records are on Ancestry
Wroxton 1813-1836 the last entry is 21 Nov 1836.
There is also another book Banns 1824 - 1901, plus two others later.

You can scroll through, I have had a quick look through 1835/36 but no luck.

You could try earlier years?

Thanks v. much for looking. Looking again there is a reference to 'Gibson's Oxfordshire Marriage Transcripts' earlier in the note and so it might come from there, if anyone knows what that means?
The ancestry images are frustrating as there is a page that goes down to 1717, then the next page there are som burials from 1742 that are crossed out, then marriages from 1740. I am not sure whether the original has the mistake in it or whether there was a page missed when scanning. 

If the record is correct then I'm fairly sure it's the right couple, they had children baptised in Churchill from 1738 and one had 'Dillo' as a first name so it looks very likely.

At first I thought it I referred to Bishops' Transcripts and Marriage Licences, Bonds and Allegations: a guide to their location and indexes by J.S.W. Gibson. However, this book is just a guide, not a collection of marriage transcripts.

Then I searched further and found several references to Oxfordshire Marriage Transcripts, 1538-1837 by J.S.W. Gibson, which sounds more likely.

I'm struggling to find where one can actually view this. The OFHS has an OXFORDSHIRE MARRIAGES 1538 - 1837 index and they only charge £1.50 for a search (when details are provided), but I am not sure whether it is the same thing?

ohh thanks very much, that looks very likely to be right. Though where JSW Gibson got his information from I don't know!
